When she retired as Infants Mistress at Parkes Public School in 1981, Val Worthington and three friends decided to learn the game of bridge. They purchased a learner's guide and were soon enjoying a weekly game. Other friends joined in and social bridge afternoons were held in private homes around the district. Val did much of the tutoring of the newcomers.
