Parkes' Brett Hutchings found a good spot on the pegs aboard SHEZ ON TARGET but just couldn't reel in the winner, who now has three wins in 18 career starts, with all three coming on the Parkes track.
There's no doubt that there are plenty more wins in store for BELL RIVER BOY, who has a best winning mile rate of 2:01.0, and the three-year-old gelding clearly loves the Parkes track- and who could blame him!
The most impressive win of the day belonged to COBBITY CASTLE in the first, after Graham Betts threw down the challenge from three-wide just before the final turn then burning his opponents in the straight to breakthrough for the mare's first win in start 21.
Malcolm Hutchings trained the second place getter in that race, MOREARTSTHANCLASS, and with son Brett driving the filly showed some real promise in start six.
The closest race of the day in the Col Fletcher Ford Pace saw a wall of six horses fight out the finish, with HEADLINE HUNTER managing to hang on to win by a neck over RING THE TILL, who has now placed at each of his last three runs at generous odds.
Brett Hutchings is now comfortably ahead in the Byrne Clothing Leading Local Driver standings, sitting at 50 points ahead of Nathan Townsend on 27.
Brett is tied with his Dad Malcolm for the Byrne Clothing Leading Local Trainer, with both sitting on 31 points ahead of Stan Townsend on 28.
The final of the Garrards Rio Meteor Series will be held next Sunday at Dubbo, with the winning trainer receiving a Rio Meteor Racing gig.
The next meeting at the Parkes Harness Racing Club will be on Sunday August 30, with the feature race being the final of the Garrards Ironhorse Series.
