Despite the near perfect start to their match against Dubbo Macquarie Raiders at Sid Kallas on Sunday, Cowra's Under 18 Magpies left the ground battered, bruised and still in search of their first win of the Western junior competition.

Played over four quarters the new Western competition is designed to give players plenty of drink breaks as club officials are banned from running water on and off the ground.
The Magpies started the match with a kick off that was bungled by Macquarie giving the pumped up Cowra side first chance to go on the attack.
The Raiders fumbled the kick-off in the Western Youth League second round clash at Sid Kallas Oval and gifted the hosts possession.
But the young Raiders held out the Magpies and soon gained ascendency.
Aston Warwick scored the first try for the Raiders and his side went on to lead 16-0 at the break.
Cowra lifted in the third quarter but Macquarie was too good in the 26-4 win.
It made it two-from-two for Dubbo sides on the weekend as CYMS also enjoyed a Northern Pool win.
At a wet and cold Apex Oval CYMS scored a 10-0 win over the Parkes Spacemen.
"It was absolutely typical wet weather footy, it was scrappy and completing our sets was a challenge, but I was really impressed with the boys today," CYMS coach Bret Fisher said.
It sets up a bumper clash between the two local rivals next weekend.
That clash is a curtain-raiser for the Presidents Cup battle between CYMS and the Western Rams.
