In a race which was trimmed to 30 laps following the shocking weather that lashed Sturt Street, the 29-year-old prevailed in a large bunch sprint to the finish.

Hosking, who has recently been signed by American team Rally UHC Cycling, raised her arms after the line in anticipation of the result going her way - and she was right. Judges found a narrow margin in Hosking's favour over Ruby Roseman Gannon and Gracie Elvin.

"I'm ecstatic. I really, really wanted to take the green and gold jersey to America this year," she said.

"I haven't raced the criterium nationals in I don't know how long, so I thought why not?... I'm also really happy and proud of how I raced today so overall I couldn't be happier."

Hosking took the final turn into the home straight poorly and momentarily lost the lead before knuckling down and driving to a narrow victory on the line.

Chasing three-straight wins, it was not to be for Rebecca Wiasak, who placed sixth overall.

Roseman Gannon was crowned national under-23 champion after placing first of the younger riders in the combined event.

Earlier on Friday, world team pursuit champion Kelland O'Brien claimed a deserved win in the men's under-23 criterium.

The success bettered his second placing in the race last year and a silver medal from the time trial on Wednesday.

It is believed a wind change caught hold of a barrier and flung it in front of one of the female riders during the junior women's criterium.

The race was neutralised and restarted with seven laps to go. And then it was Dubbo's Haylee Fuller which went on to beat Francesca Sewell and Tahlia Dole.

Darling Downs' Declan Trezise took out the junior men's criterium.
