With our entire region in drought, we've come up with a win-win for us present procrastinators and retailers in our local communities.
Here's the plan - let's forget the major retailers and buy from the bush. Buy local. Buy from someone you know. Buy from someone who puts their heart and soul into everything they make.
Without waiting another minute here's 10 ways you can keep the foodie in your life happy, or yourself for that matter. Enjoy and merry Christmas.
1. Don't be nuts, or maybe do be
Murrungundy Pistachios is a farm near Dubbo that offer a range of products including jams and relishes. You could pick up a tasty pistachio dukkah for $10 or a 200gm bag of pistachios for $10. Purchase online or visit them on Facebook.
2. Clean up in style
These hand made screen-printed beauties take the humble tea towel to a whole new level. Great for a Kris Kringle, a "thank you for putting up with my child 9-3 each day" or just to dress up a daggy kitchen. They're just $24 each from Unearthed Homewares in Cowra.
3. The start of something beautiful
Yep, it sure is hot this summer so why not cool down with a drink from these beautiful glasses. These stunning coloured tumbler glasses are $29.95 and are available from the very fun Made of Fridays in Forbes. Check out their website to discover Australian made olive oil, cheeseboards, a customisable cookie stamp, funky bottle openers, whisky stones and spoon rests.
4. Bubbles are better in the festive period
Know someone who loves a good wine or bubbles? Why not it's the festive period after all. Well this rattan wine carrier is a special way to make a bottle of wine feel more personal. They're from The Studio Trangie and are just $19.95 each with the option to add a Pom Pom tassel for $9.94. Check out The Studio Trangie on Facebook or Instagram.
5. Dishing up great taste
The food may be looking good, but what do you put it on? This beautiful platter ($66) comes with a gorgeous matching condiment bowl ($12) and salad servers ($65). You could snap them up for your favourite foodie from Jackson Trading Co in Harden. Check out their Instagram page or call them direct on 0448 069 632.
6. The not so secret, secret in our fridge
Rosie's Boutique Condiments is not really a secret. Most households in country NSW would have a half bottle of Rosie's honey mustard dressing in their fridge. It's the best (not so) secret weapon for summer entertaining. Ranges in price from $13.90-$35. And the chilli and capsicum jam ($13.90) makes for a lovely "thanks for having us" gift too. Rosie runs the business from her farm in Warren. Shop online or check out their Facebook page.
7. Give 'em the wooden spoon
Ever wanted to give someone the wooden spoon? Well now you can. If you're obsessed by a good wooden spoon (who isn't) these perfect little doses of Christmas cheer (and practicality) are available from This n That in Gilgandra for $20. Visit them on Instagram, on Facebook or call 6847 0500 to purchase.
8. Sweet tastes from the veggie patch
If small batch pickles and jams is what you've been looking for then check out The Dill Tickle in Mendooran. Lizzie makes beautiful relishes and preserves with ingredients sourced from her veggie patch, her friend's gardens and local suppliers. They range from $13-16. Visit The Dill Tickle on Facebook or Instagram to order.
9. Taste sensations this festive period
If a Christmas curry is your thing then check out Petals and Seeds in Walgett. Indian style curry paste created by Burton's Lane Curry Paste is just the start of the tasty treats on offer. Snap up the curry paste for $17 from this family-run business. Check out Petals and Seeds on Instagram or Facebook.
10. Sit down with a good cuppa
There is nothing like a good cuppa and a sit down amid all these festivities, but you'll need a gorgeous mug to drink out of, right? This range of beautiful mugs will make you want tea and shortbread immediately. Check them out at Country Simplicity. Visit the store on Instagram, Facebook or call 0427 719 899 to purchase.
