Take a walk or drive around town and watch the progress as spring comes into its own - it's heartening especially during this drought to see nature doing its best to bring Spring cheer to all.
Sunday, October 13, from 10 am to 4 pm, is the date for this year's big day of open gardens and associated fun. Note the day in your diary, as you won't want to miss a single thing.
Entrance wristbands will be sold at Parkes Visitors Centre (on the day) and at Greenparkes Nursery and Garden Centre, $15 each and you will get a map with your wristband.
Children 16 and under will be admitted free. Greenparkes is offering a 10% discount on their nursery products when you buy your wristband.
A lovely day has been planned, including:
- Gardens will be open all day, 10 am to 4 pm.
- Stalls selling plants, garden art, pottery, olive oil products, skin and beauty products, creative digital designs, original gift cards and much more.
- Devonshire teas from 10am - 11.30 am at the first garden. Those fabulous scone cooks from Quota will be busy baking, and $5 a serve is all that you will pay.
- A delightful lunch in a rural setting (but close to town for easy access) from 12 noon-2 pm for just $15.
- A wonderful raffle - a wheelbarrow full of gardening 'goodies'. Tickets are just $1 each and will be sold at Woolies Supermarket on Fridays during September and October.
Descriptions of the gardens, venues for morning tea and lunch, and a full list of stalls will be available closer to the date.
We very much appreciate that the gardeners we have approached have been so generous with their response and have agreed to open.
Five of the gardens haven't been opened before!
