Nicole replaces Paul Gray who was relieving in the position after David Simes left.
She hasn't had to come far though, Nicole lives in Forbes and has been an assistant principal at Forbes Public School for the last 13 years.
"I'm really excited to be here and I want to continue some of the great programs already in place," she said.
"I'm looking forward to working with the whole school community - staff, students and the wider community to develop the best education for our current and future students."
Originally from Gloucester, Nicole said as a child she always wanted to be a teacher.
I remember being a little girl and buying some stamps and stamping pieces of paper at home," she laughed.
Nicole studied teaching at the University of New England and has taught across the country and overseas.
"I was assistant principal at Wilcannia for two years before coming to Forbes," she said.
"Prior to that I was in London for two years.
"I've done a lot of work along the east coast and I taught in a remote Aboriginal community for 12 months which was a great experience.
"We worked from 7am to 1pm because it was so hot.
"It was very remote, the only way in or out was to fly and there was no electricity only generator power."
Nicole said despite being very happy in her new role, she is going to miss teaching.
"I enjoy children, it's something I am going to miss, I was in the classroom six weeks ago, so it will be very different not being in that environment," she said.
"But now I plan to continue to create great opportunities for students at Middleton Public School while working alongside the other schools in the Henry Parkes Community of schools.
"The leadership team at Middleton Public School and I will continue to strive for excellence within the school while developing our students' academic, social, creative arts and sporting skills."
Married with one child, Nicole says she is a 'born and bred country girl' and apart from her stint in London has always lived in the country.
"I like the country, rural areas are where I belong and I plan on sticking around," she said.
Nicole likes to play tennis, garden and enjoys camping trips with her family.
