Graeme Hoy is well known in the Central West Car Club for his trucks, both new and old, so when he turned up on a club run in something more suited to a young fella cutting laps of the main street I was eager to get the story behind his sweet set of wheels.

He admits that it was a bit of a spur of the moment decision to buy the ute and that he wasn't quite sure on what he was buying, but he's gradually becoming more familiar with it and enjoying taking it out on the road when he can.
"It was a couple of years ago when I heard that Holden were no longer making V8's that I decided to buy myself one while they were still easy enough to find," said Graeme.
"This one popped upon eBay and I told my daughter to keep an eye on it for me and put in a few bids.
"Before long she'd told me 'by the way dad, you just bought that ute' and all of a sudden I realised she'd taken me seriously and I was on my way to the Gold Coast to pick it up."
Graeme's hot ute is a bit of a mixture of modifications.
It's a 1975 HJ Holden with a Statesman front, GTS front guards and spoiler, WB tail lights and an HJ wagon full rear bumper to tidy up the rear end.
Under the bonnet there's an HSV Clubsport five litre V8 and automatic gearbox and it's been lowered two inches all round.
The interior has had a makeover aswell with Holden Calais electric leather seats, GTS wheel and custom dash and electric windows, central locking, air conditioning and power steering.
It's certainly got all the good gear on it and it's nicely finished in Botanica Blue Mica with a set of big Showwheel Streeters to complete the package.
"It sat in the shed for 12 months after I first got it," laughed Graeme, "but once I decided to put it on the road the process of getting the ute on conditional registration through the car club went pretty smoothly because all the work had been done properly."
The Parkes based Central West Car Club has a growing membership and meets regularly on the first Wednesday of the month at Parkes Leagues Club.
