A fresh face will lead the hard working committee into 2019, with Dan Wilson being voted in as the new Executive Director at the recent annual general meeting.
Dan is taking over from Aaron Huppatz, who stepped down from the role he has served in for the past two years.
Aaron’s efforts during this time have been instrumental in the growth and progression of hockey being a fun and inclusive sport for the families of Parkes.
He went into the role with the goal to create a fair and fun local competition, as well as attract more carnivals to Parkes to generate income and facility improvements for both hockey and the Parkes township.
Aaron and his committee certainly achieved this and more, and his dedication was acknowledged when he was announced the recipient of the 2018 Parkes Shire Sports Administrator of the Year Award on Australia Day last month.
PHI, on behalf of its members, would like to extend a huge congratulations and thank you to Aaron for his commitment over the past two years.
Aaron will remain involved with PHI in 2019 but in other roles. He is coaching the 2019 Parkes United Men’s Premier League team in their return to the Western Premier League competition, in addition to taking on the role as Judiciary Officer.
Dan is thrilled about his new role as Executive Director.
“It’s an exciting time to be involved with hockey in Parkes,” he said.
“Our senior comp has six competitive grades across men’s and women’s divisions and the junior numbers are growing every year.
“We have Mariah Williams and Kurt Lovett who are Australian reps from Parkes and we have lots of state players representing us across all age groups, from U13 through to O70’s!
“Again we’re hosting more carnivals this year.
“The Hockey NSW Kookaburra 8s carnival for U11s in the April school holidays and the Hockey NSW U13 Girls State Championships in the July school holidays.
“I’m really looking forward to joining the executive committee and continuing the good work of growing participation, creating an enjoyable and family oriented atmosphere at hockey each Saturday and improving our facilities for all members and users.”
Dan is certainly a familiar face to the hockey community, having played in the local A Grade competition for several years, as well as playing in the Parkes United Men’s Premier League team.
In addition to playing, Dan has also been an active contributor to the success of Parkes Hockey, having held the Judiciary Chairman’s role for the past three years.
He’s also spent numerous hours coaching junior teams, volunteering his time at carnivals and gala days, in the canteen and umpiring.
Dan has already settled into his new Executive Director role and is preparing for the season ahead.
“We’re starting the year with a social pre-season come ‘n’ try comp, which will run for four weeks starting on March 1. If you’ve not played hockey before, then this is your chance!
“Our winter season will then start on April 6.”
