Before the weekend’s FIH Pro League round at Tasmania, Parkes’ Mariah Williams said she’d looking to look at the aspects of her game she didn’t do too well in Melbourne the week before and “put on a better performance on the field”.

Looks as though Williams is a fast learner.

Marking her return to international hockey in this inaugural running of the pro league, Williams has lifted the Hockeyroos to a thrilling one-goal win over China at the Tasmanian Hockey Centre.

Williams was player of the match and scored the opening goal against China, it’s her first international goal since the Rio Olympics in 2016.

Rosie Malone, Grace Stewart and Savannah Fitzpatrick also scored goals to help Australia secure its second victory for the tournament in front of an enthusiastic Hobart crowd.

“It’s fantastic to get the three points,” coach Paul Gaudoin said.

“We had some really quality play on occasion and some poor play as well. We have to lift our consistency.”

The victory pushed the Hockeyroos to the top of the FIH Pro League standings heading into their clash with Germany late Sunday afternoon.
