Both the junior and senior comps started last week. Some of the junior comp results were as follows-

Red Aces

This term these players have moved onto a bigger playing area and will enjoy being able to use more strategy in their matches. Sienna Hunt has been practising in the holidays and made it hard for Adam Smede in their first match back. Adam is coming to HotShots this term so his serving and hitting technique will no doubt make some valuable improvements. Sienna won 5/1.

Kate Forbes and Toby Swain played a two all draw while Knox Lamont defeated Anna Davis in a close match 2/1. Charlotte Wilson continued her fine form from last comp when she was rallying like a trooper and last week scored an 8/1 result over Jordan Mann who will need to try to get a little practise in during her week.

Orange Federers

Elena Glastonbury is going to have a more challenging term on the orange court but week one showed she will be up to it when she scored a 5/1 win over Forbes’ Ruby Coote.

Jack Greenland and Liliani Latu had a close match last week. Not too many rallies in their nine games played but it was jack who came away with a 5/4 win.

Great to see the very enthusiastic Sam Westcott back to comp tennis this term. Sam has been working hard on his power plays and hopefully his shots don’t have too much force behind them. He showed some beaut control last week when he defeated Declan Quade 4/1.

Orange Nadals

PJ McPherson seems to be on the same roll as term 3 when he accounted for Issy Lennox 6/1 while the same could be said for Tarlei Glastonbury when she scored a 7/2 scoreline over Phoebe Forbes.

Jacques vanWyk didn’t let Mitch Boggs into their match winning all six games played.

Green Smashes

Nate Harrison and Lucy Hall played a four all draw in their match while Patrick Simpson and Max Coote only managed to get three games finished with Pat winning two of them.

Sam Riley was pretty happy with his first up 5/2 win over Mitch Wirth and Victoria Simpson loved playing with her new racquet when she defeated Kelsey Mann 3/2.

Green Volleys

Coen Glastonbury has been promoted this term to the top division and he was up to the challenge with a close 4/3 win over Tom Rix. Anabelle vanWyk and Ella McColl had some good rallies and Anabelle was a little too strong with a 4/1 win.

Great to have Harry Simpson back to comp tennis after a Winter break. Harry didn’t seem to be out of practise at all when he racked up a 7/2 win over Ruby Wilson.

Tim Nyugen finally had a good start to comp. Tim is a young talent but practises like a star and doesn’t transfer that good tennis across to his matches. Last week though he came out the victor over Poppy Fisher who will relish the challenge of being placed in the top half hour group. The final score 4/2.

Singles and Doubles Divison

The new combination of Nia Boggs and Hayden Arndell started well when they showed a rusty Will Rix and Nick McPherson no mercy on court. Nia and Hayden sped through their sets taking all 3 comfortably.

Lachie Unger and Tyson Lennox scored a close 2 sets to 1 win over Faith Clarke and Tia Dunn while Archie Rix and Cody Morgan were on fire when they accounted for Xander Macgregor and Sam Rivett in all 3 sets. Great to see Sam enjoyed his first crack at singles and doubles and will understand the value of serving practise in the coming weeks.

Ethan Hunt and Nick Gascoigne had a hard fought win over Mitch Unger and Marcus Moss. Ethan’s singles against Mitch was the difference with Ethan scoring a 6/1 scoreline while the other 2 sets went 6/5 one apiece.

ANZHotshots

With over 250 ANZHotShots kids aged between four years to 12 years enrolled for term four, the future of tennis in Parkes looks positive. Plenty of attention during this eight week program will be based around the youngsters ability to track balls, depth perception and working on accuracy and consistency through games based learning with an athlete centred approach. This will particularly be the case for Red ball and Orange ball players with some Orange groups and Green stage players consolidating and working towards more tactical play.

Champion of Champion

Parkes has 12 players qualified for the end of season Central West Champion of Champions event which will be held in Bathurst this Sunday. This is the top eight point scorers from results compiled during the 15 tournaments during the year.

Ella McColl has qualified in the 10s, Ellen Dolbel and Gabe Goodrick(12s), Abbey Kennedy, Maddy McCormick, Holly McColl, Molly Kennedy, Nia Boggs(14s), Hannah Potts and Phoebe Potts(16s), Harry Dawson and Lachy Tassell(18s) while Lily McCormick and Koby Wirth were very unlucky both finishing in 9th place. Ethan Hunt was the other good performer for Parkes finishing in the strong 12 and under division in 12th place.

Night Competition

Some very close Round 1 matches and perhaps this was evident as most players hadn’t picked up a racquet for a couple of months.

Deuce Bags Abbey Kennedy, Maddy McCormick and Koby Wirth had played during the holidays and took on a depleted Bogan Gate Bandit side who had to call in father and son dynamic duo in Phil and Cody Kirk. Andrew ‘Pherso’ McPherson managed to keep the Bandits in tact but it wasn’t quite enough as Deuce Bags scored a one game win after sets were tied at three each.

Well the Top Shelf team must’ve wanted to get home in a hurry to watch the latest episode of The Survivor as they only managed to lose four games across their six sets. This makes Top Shelf team of Drew Hayne, Gary Morgan and Ang Porter the early favourites. Smashes team meanwhile will have to arrive a little earlier tonight and get their eye in to see if they can make double figures.

The Questionables led by Julian Fyfe scored a minimal one game win over Regional Business Supplies(RBS). Great to see Brad Wilson back on court in Parkes and he will no doubt find his range over the coming weeks. Laura Kirk ably filled in for her mum and partnered Julian to score a win over Brendon Hunt and Molly Kennedy. Gabe Goodrick won his singles for RBS as did Molly but it wasn’t quite enough.

Dreamteam scored a four sets to two win over The Dirty Daws last week. Mark Ritchie filled in for Dreamteam but had to take on the hottest player in town right now in Ben Evans. Ben has been timing the ball well over the past month or so but never exerts himself too much in the night comp preferring to work on a few trick shots instead. He showed his much more experienced opponent a taste of his strokes in their 6/1 singles set. Mark then teamed with Darren Fisher and Tim Bell to take the eventual win.

In the final match it was nice to see the father and son combination Angus and Mitchell Arndell take to the court for the first time competitively. Angus has always possessed silky smooth strokes while young Mitch plays with plenty of eagerness. They teamed with Holly McColl but they weren’t quite up to the skill and consistency of Brent Tucker and Amelia Tanswell along with some occasional big serving from Alex Evans with the Net Nuts winning four of the six sets over Arndell’s Aces. Mixed Lollies and Davis Cup teams will join the comp tonight and revised draws have been emailed out to indicate there will now be no BYE.
