Our ‘blustery wind’ again made our bowls difficult to play but two matches in the Club Championship Fours were played with E Miller, B Davies, R Went, L Byrne defeating M Iffland, V Westcott, G Carty, C Frame in a hard fought game.

J McPhee, H Harvey, L Baker, K Evans defeated M Rodgers, L Orr, M Grant, P Cooney in a great game. Next week will see the Final played between E Miller, B Davies, R Went, L Byrne versus J McPhee, H Harvey, L Baker, K Evans. A great match to watch.
In social matches played H McPherson, A Jones had a draw with F Charlton, M Hawken. I Svendsen, F Riseborough, M Riordan defeated D Howell, C Cox, R Mitchell in a triples game. The Jones Shield will be played at Condobolin on September 20, good luck to players.
The Central Western District won the Taber Shield played at Blayney last week with four teams from each district competing. The Taber Shield has been played for over many years.
The Cannon-Merritt Trophy will be played for at Forbes on Wednesday, October 3. M/T 9.30am, play 10am. 21 ends, Picnic lunch or can order Chinese. Teams as follows;
- Team 1 H Harvey, M Miller, R Mitchell. Team 2 J McPhee, M Rodgers, M Iffland. Team 3 D Howell, K Keogh, M Riordan. Manager R Mitchell.
A very successful Trading Table was held and a lovely Birthday Cake for Moya Ward’s 90th was enjoyed by all. Raffle was won by Chris Curteis. Winners for the day were Elaine, Brenda, Rhona and Liz. R/us Di, Chris and Rosemary. To play social bowls please ring Table Selectors Brenda Davies and Di Howell. Social roster M Iffland. Daylight Saving starts Sunday, October 7.

Railway Bowls
Last Saturday the club conducted an excellent Bowls day with all proceeds going to Prostate Cancer approximately 30 bowlers enjoyed the day with lots of prizes going out to many winners and everyone in general.
Thanks to Kevin Hyndes and Shane Sharman especially Kev who got his beard and hair shaved and to Shane who had a mowhawk thanks to every one who participated to Pat Cooney and Chris Dunn a job well done many thanks.
Last Thursday the first round of the Handicap Pairs with seven teams taking part some good matches were witnessed and winners advanced to the second round this Thursday.
One second round match was played on Tuesday between Ron Murray and Terry Hetherington against Lea Tanks and John Omalley with Terry and Ron winning the match 23-21 with a Handicap of eight .
Also a Championship Fours match was played between Jason Gosper,Mick Valentine, Guy Bennett and John Corcoran against Cooper Fliedner,Steve Frame, Lee Hetherington (sub) and Graeme Fliedner with Flippy's team taking out the match 25-15.
Wednesday winners Bob Freeman, Dawn Parker and Matt Mcgrath. Runners up Rob Clegg, Greg Huggins and Steve Clegg. This weekend Saturday Social Bowls and Thursday Social Bowls we will recommence along with Daylight saving.

SSAA Smallbore
Last weekend we saw six shooters attend the Deep Lead complex. They shot at crow targets at both 25 and 50 meters. For a maximum of 520 points. This match was shot under strong south west winds which caught everyone at the 50 meter range.

One shot for practice only. We lost one of our long time shooters on the weekend. Basyl Rudenko, After a short illness and at the time of writing, no further information was available. RIP Basyl. Our next shoot is at 10am Sunday, September 23 and will be ordinary targets at both ranges.

Bridge
Last week we were notified that our winners in the Bridge for Brains Neuroscience competition, Peter Quin and Louise Payne, had come second Australia wide and first in New South Wales. We are extremely proud of their achievement. Congratulations.
September 10 winners were Helen McQuie and Ingrid Stephenson 61.46, Wendy Andrews and Robyn Sheridan 57.29, Stephen Garriock and Bill Burke 52.08.
September 11 Bev Laing and Audrey Somers 68.45, Jan Freeman and Marg Powter 58.53, Keith Fiedler and Greig Ball56.55, Kevin Robinson and Isabel Orange 52.18
September 13 north south winners were Louise Payne and Peter Quin 56.25, Bev Laing and Isabel Orange 54.58, Suzie McNamara and Beth Thomas 53.33. On the east west side the winners were Val Worthington and Joan Reilly equal with Wendy Andrews and Jill Peterson all on 53.93. Third were Kevin Robinson and Ingrid Stephenson 53.21.
September 18 Equal winners were Bev Laing and Jenny Freeman, Jan Freeman and Beth Symington all with 56.94. Third were Suzie McNamara and Robyn Morrissey 55.56 followed by Grieg Ball and Peter Dearden 54.85.

School news
Parkes Public School: Congratulations to the Hot Shots tennis team on their great efforts last Thursday winning the Todd Woodbridge Cup Zone Final held in Parkes. The team will progress to Regional Finals next term to be held in Canowindra.
Parkes East Public School: State Athletics qualifiers: Ebony Bayliss-Cox - second senior girls discus 25.86m and Elly Thornberry - third 11 years girls high jump PB 1.27m
Parkes Christian School: The students attended a Tennis Carnival in Parkes. They had a great day playing both with and against other schools. Well done!!!
