The Take The Lead campaign aims to proactively raise awareness about the roles and responsibilities of pet ownership, with the aim of reducing the amount of roaming dogs and dog attacks.
Parkes Shire Councillor Bill Jayet, said that it is a great opportunity for dog owners to take the lead and brush up on the requirements and regulations associated with owning an animal.
“There are many benefits to owning a dog - socially, physically and mentally, however it also comes with major responsibility,” Cr Jayet said.
This campaign is also a chance for locals thinking about getting a pet, to learn about what’s involved in becoming a responsible owner.”
As part of the campaign, Council have developed a pocket guide, social media content and public signage with all the necessary information for responsible pet ownership, including: Ensuring your dog is kept safely within your property; Ensure your dog is effectively controlled in public places; Microchipping, registration and identification; Vaccination, worming and de-sexing; Off-leash areas in Parkes; Council’s ranger services; Companion Animals Act 1998 regulations.
Residents can pick up their Take The Lead pocket guide from Council’s Administration Centre or Parkes Veterinary Clinic. Residents can also download the information from Council’s website www.parkes.nsw.gov.au
