The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) recorded 3.2mm had fallen in Parkes overnight Friday, with a bigger downpour on Saturday.
Up to 1.2mm had dropped by 9.30am on Saturday, more than doubling that measurement within the hour.
By the time the gates at the Parkes Racecourse opened for the Parkes Picnic Races at 11.30am, 3.8mm had fallen.
The rain managed to hold off for most of the afternoon and evening, with the rain gauge reaching 4.8mm by 4.30pm and remaining there until 2am Sunday.
By 2.30am, another 0.2mm had dropped.
It’s the first rain we’ve seen this month.
Parkes only received a total of 21.2mm in May, less than half the long term monthly average of 47mm.
We also had a very dry April and March with both totalling 6mm and 6.4mm respectively.
It’s a big comparison compared to March last year, when Parkes was hit deluges totalling 195.4mm.

It’s also a massive drop from the April monthly long term average of 31.4mm and the March long term average 54mm.
Last year Parkes received 22.6mm in April and 33.6mm in May.
June’s long term monthly average for Parkes is 53.4mm.
