This years National Volunteer Week theme ‘Give a little. Change a lot’ represents the more than six million Australian volunteers who make a profound impact in their communities and on society, through giving a little of their time, with 95% of Australia’s not-for-profit organisations run by volunteers.
Wilcannia Forbes Central Council of the St Vincent de Paul Society, are proud to acknowledge the invaluable contribution our wonderful volunteers make in the delivery of services to their respective communities. National Volunteer Week is the largest celebration of volunteers and volunteerism in Australia, and allows our Society to join with other volunteer organisations to say ‘thank you’, for without our volunteers tireless contributions the Society would not exist. These tireless efforts do not go unnoticed.

There have been many people of the years who have volunteered their time, and whether it be one day or ten years, all efforts are appreciated. There have been some massive contributions including Barbara Kearney from Trundle Conference who has given 38 years of service, and two Parkes volunteers, Frances Charlton and Christine Coxs, have given 30 years of service each to the Parkes Centre where they continue to volunteer.
During Volunteer week we celebrate Barbara, Frances and Christine, along with all Vinnies volunteers and members who have given so much back to their community.
With busy lives it can be hard to find time to volunteer. However the benefits of volunteering are enormous to you and your community. Volunteering is one of the best ways to make new friends, build relationships and learn new skills. It can also provide a sense of purpose to people who are lonely or isolated and can increase self-confidence.
St Vincent de Paul Society is therefore calling for citizens in Parkes, Peak Hill and Trundle to consider volunteering with them in their centres. For more information you can call Parkes on 02 6862 3383, Peak Hill on 02 6869 1898, and Trundle/Tullamore on 0448 238 640.
