Coming up against some equally deserving nominees including Peak Hill Early Literacy, Paint Parkes Read, Rotary Fun Run, Rotary Peace Park Dedication and Parkes Open Houses; the Show ‘n Shine took the honour of the award which was graciously received by club president Rodney Barnes.
Rodney praised the efforts of those who helped make the event a success.
2017 was the 13th annual Show ‘n Shine for the CWCC with the first event being held in 2004 at the Big W car park.
“That first event raised $1000 for the Parkes branch of Can-Assist, and with the generosity of the local community and sponsors it has since gone on to raise in excess of $10 000 each year during the last four years” Rodney said.
Rodney also acknowledged the addition of the Parkes Antique Motor Club swap meet to the event for the last two years which along with the market stalls and displays adds more attraction to the show.
The 2017 show featured a wide range of vehicles all the way from a 1909 vintage motorcycle right up to a brand new Holden ute delivered the day before the event.
It was estimated that between 1500 and 1800 people attended the Show ‘n Shine with entrants travelling from the likes of Sydney and Wodonga as well as locally.
“Events such as this are always a boost to the local economy whether it be accommodation, eating out or just fuelling up,” Rodney said.
The car show is held each year in October at Pioneer Oval so be sure to keep your eyes and ears out for this years event.
