Simeon is a home schooled student currently in year 10 who has been playing the bassoon for two years after swapping from the saxophone.
Simeon travels some 160 kilometres every fortnight to Orange for music lessons, while he is also involved in the local Parkes community orchestra every Wednesday, which his family drives in from Trundle for.
The SYO Summer School combines high-standard music making, creativity, exploration, and personal development, and is a fun week of rehearsals, workshops and performances.
Established to cover the second week of January when parents of school-aged students are looking to occupy their busy and talented young people, SYO provides a week-long open music program packed with choir rehearsals, large ensemble playing, masterclasses and tutorials, music theory and info sessions.
The SYO Summer School was held at St Mary’s Cathedral College and The Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
The program was made possible through the generosity of SYO Opportunity Fund Donors and the Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation.
