As we caught up with everyone’s news, we found that none of us won large during the Melbourne Cup.
We did catch up with each other’s news since we had met at the October Meeting.
In fact, the only time that the dining room became quiet was as we ate our lovely luncheon at the Aastro Dish Restaurant.
The business meeting came first, of course.
One part of the meeting is to hear about our four Smith Family “Learning for Life” school children.
All members and guests find the news about them truly inspiring!
We are only one of 300+ VIEW Clubs who are taking part in this program, trying to help as many as 1200 of the 1.1 million young people living in poverty in Australia!
VIEW Clubs have been doing this for 55 years, and Parkes Day VIEW Club has been doing it for 48!
VIEW Club Head Office forwards all our letters, birthday cards, Christmas cards to the four children.
November is the month we elect our committee members, and that happened as planned.
Next February, the committee will be installed, as is usual.
Our meeting days are on the first Tuesday of each month, with two exceptions: in November, it is held on the second Tuesday, so that members can attend Melbourne Cup luncheons as a social lunch; and we don’t meet at all during January.
All women are welcome to join us, for the social aspect and to help us raise money for our “Learning for Life” schoolchildren.
Not only do we hold 11 Meetings a year, but we also have Trivia Nights and Soup and Sweets Luncheons as money-makers.
Look in the Champion Post for the info as to days, times and venues for these happenings.
And a BIG “thank you” for the Parkes community for supporting our activities during the year!
December Meeting
After a very short business meeting, the members and guests attending the December Christmas Meeting partied on at the Aastro Dish Motor Inn’s Galaxy Restaurant.
It was our usual meeting day of the first Tuesday of the month, December 5.
Since the theme was the colours “Red, Green and White”, the almost 50 ladies wore a combination of those colours.
We all looked outstanding, and had our photos taken by the Champion Post photographer.
We like dressing up for our Birthday (in September) and, of course, for Christmas.
We brought items to put in our raffle baskets, our lucky door prizes, and some ladies brought various yummy treats to be sold on the trading table.
All these bits and pieces were brought so that we could support our four Smith Family “Learning for Life” school children.
Of course, we had a lovely two course luncheon in the Galaxy Restaurant.
Plus, one of our members had made three Christmas cakes, and iced them beautifully!
And a big, “thank you” to our anonymous cake maker, for the cakes!
“Thank you”, also, to the community of Parkes who take part in the various VIEW Club activities that are held each year to raise more money.
We plan to have Trivia Nights and a Soup and Sweets Luncheon (in the winter) next year to continue our activities, as we have in the past.
We invite all women to join us in these social happenings and have fun while helping youngsters that need help financially at school.
I am proud to write that in Australia, the VIEW Clubs of Australia looks after 927 primary schoolchildren, 268 secondary schoolchildren, and 20 tertiary/TAFE students.
Our next Meeting will be held on February 6, 2018.
The details will be published in the Champion Post.
Join us for not only the social fun, but also helping support the “Learning for Life” program!
“Merry Christmas and Happy New Year” to one and all!
