After an almost two decade wait, the first sod of earth was turned at the site by then NSW Health Minister, Jillian Skinner on Friday, July 25, 2014.
And it was on November 24, 2015, that the first patients were wheeled through the doors of the new $72.8 million hospital.
Staff celebrated on Wednesday with a barbecue and cake cutting.
Kath Gleeson (Community & Allied Health Manager, Lachlan Health Service, Parkes & Forbes) said it has been an exciting journey for staff and the community of Parkes.
“Careful planning over three years ensured we ended up with a modern, state of the art purpose built facility to suit the needs of the Parkes community,” she said.
Kath said the health service has realised many benefits from the move, one being increased collaboration between services due to co-location.
“Introduction of the “Facility Huddle” each morning with staff from all departments attending has engendered a cohesiveness previously not seen,” she said.
“I’m sure Liz Mitchell (Health Services Manager, Lachlan Forbes and Parkes) who is unable to be here today would like me to thank everyone for their commitment and hard work,” Kath said.
“And I’m equally as sure that Deborah Hunter, if she were with us today, would be proud of the achievements we have accomplished.”
“Happy birthday!”
