As part of Missing Persons Week, police are appealing for public information to help locate a man who went missing from Peak Hill almost seven months ago.
Missing Persons Week is an annual national campaign to raise awareness of the issues and impacts surrounding missing persons and runs between Sunday, July 30 and Saturday, August 5.
The theme of this year’s campaign is ‘Still waiting for you to come home’.
The campaign aims to highlight the high number of people who are reporting missing to police each year and the impact on family and friends following the disappearance of a loved one.
Max William Day, aged 53, left his home on Bingara Street, Peak Hill, on Saturday, January 7, 2017 and was last seen at a truck stop on the Newell Highway, about 10km north of Parkes, on Sunday, February 5, 2017.
Police have been told his vehicle – a green 2000 Ford Fairmont – was left parked in a car park on Rankin Street, Forbes, between Monday, January 9, 2017, and Wednesday, January 25, 2017, when it was located by police.
Detectives have pieced together the days leading up to his disappearance and determined Mr Day was picked up hitch-hiking at an address in Forbes and dropped at the Gooloogong Caravan Park on Wednesday, January 25, 2017.
Police have conducted an extensive search of a property in Gooloogong owned by his family and it’s possible he may have stayed at this location for a short period of time; however, he was not located.
No transactions have been made from Mr Day’s accounts since his disappearance.
As investigations continue, police are urging anyone in the community who may have information on the whereabouts of Mr Day, or has any other information about his disappearance, to come forward.
He is described as being of Caucasian appearance with an olive complexion, about 175cm tall, of a medium build, with grey short hair and hazel/brown eyes.
He may be wearing blue jeans, a beige top, work boots and a dark-coloured Akubra hat.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: www1.police.nsw.gov.au
Information you provide will be treated in the strictest of confidence.
