Chief Inspector David Cooper said Parkes Police received multiple calls about the scam on Wednesday morning.
“It’s the same scam where someone claiming to represent the Australian Taxation Office calls asking for details,” Inspector Cooper said.
“They seem to be especially targeting the elderly.”
Chief Inspector Cooper said the ATO will never ask for personal or bank details over the phone, or ask anyone to deposit money.
“Our advice is to take note of the caller ID/phone number if possible,” he said.
“But in any case, do not provide any information and hang up.”
