Mr Barrett said he would bring a diverse array of experiences if preselected as The Nationals candidate and ultimately the Member for Orange.
Locally born and bred, Scott Barrett first joined the Party as a Young National, and currently works as a Senior Policy Adviser for the NSW Minister for Primary Industries and Minister for Lands and Water.
“I’ve shorn sheep, built fences, worked on building sites and picked fruit across the region, and spent a lot of weekends playing rugby and cricket for local sides,” Mr Barrett said.
“It’s a really diverse region with a great range of communities from Canowindra to Parkes, Peak Hill, Molong, Forbes, Cumnock, Yeoval and Orange.
“This region is my home, and I would be honoured to represent it as the Nationals Member for Orange in the NSW Parliament.
“I understand the region, I understand the issues – but more than that, I have firsthand experience working within state government and in both the NSW and Federal Parliaments.
“This has given me the understanding of how to take solutions to the decision makers, and get results.”
Mr Barrett said he will continue to meet with members of branches across the breadth of the electorate in the lead up to preselection, while continuing to actively support the election campaign of Andrew Gee as The Nationals Federal Member for Calare on July 2.
Selected to represent the Nationals, Mr Barrett said he will work tirelessly with the community to see the Central West capitalise on the potential that exists right across the region.
“Our community has a great mix of agriculture, mining, tourism, small businesses and other industries and I want to work with them to create jobs and make our region prosper,” Mr Barrett said.
“I see access to and from ports as a key goal and will push the NSW Government to support the inland rail project, which would run through the western part of the electorate.
“The vacating local member for Orange, Andrew Gee has worked tirelessly for the electorate and, if elected, I aim to follow on by continuing to work to achieve the best outcomes for all local communities.”
