Parkes has always been a strong sporting town and what better way to pay homage to our many sporting communities than through hosting a Masters Games of our own.
Masters Games events are designed to cater for mature age sportspeople and provide them with the opportunity to participate in their chosen activity and to compete with their age peers. The main objective of the Parkes Masters Games is to develop a fun and social sporting event that includes multiple sporting organisations over one weekend a year.
Being active in sport as an older person provides good mental health and wellbeing benefits to participants as well the community and has the potential to increase participant registrations in local sport within the Parkes Shire.
The Parkes Masters Games committee are on track to host the 2nd Parkes Masters Games from Friday 22nd March to Sunday 24th March. Due to some technical challenges during planning that were unable to be resolved, along with other scheduled Sporting events on the same weekend, the PMG will only proceed with 2 sports this year.
Croquet will be held from 9am on Friday at the Parkes Croquet Courts and the Railway Bowling Club will host the Bowls event from 1pm on Friday, 10am Saturday and a third event Saturday night.
The committee have worked hard over the past 12 months obtaining grant funding through Parkes Shire Council and Evolution Mining Northparkes Operations sport grant program along with local sponsorships.
Special thank you to the following business for their support: Silver Sponsorship: Telescope Tyres and the Parkes Service Club and Bronze sponsorship: Worklocker and The Bugman.
