Or using one of said stallions to breed a pacing juggernaut that wins an Inter Dominion, Gold Crown or Breeders Challenge.
That being said, you can produce as many fillies and colts as you want from top-class stallions, and still not find a quality runner that can win you races.
Dubbo sisters Sharon and Amanda Coffee have so far had no problems racking up the wins in their first foray into breeding though, with Oh One Job nabbing her fourth victory in just seven career starts at Parkes on Monday afternoon.
Sharon, a very recognisable face in the Central West harness racing fraternity, is usually behind the camera, but in this instance was happy to grab the reins of her filly after she won the Canola Cup Back In 2022 Pace.
The Heston Blue Chip x How Goods This three-year-old is trained in Bathurst by Mat Rue, and the veteran trainer-driver has been in the gig for all but one of her runs.
The foray into breeding got off to the perfect start for the sisters.
In just her second career start, Oh One Job ($5.50) powered to victory in Forbes on May 2, with Rue guiding the filly to dominant 28 metre win in 1:59.0.
Since then, aside from one abominable run in Bathurst when Coffee says the filly just 'decided not to run', it has been clear that the three-year-old has immense talent, despite a few quirks.
With a grin from ear to ear after the race, Coffee said after the race those quirks are all part of the rollercoaster ride of breeding and ownership - which has now net them $17,431 in prizemoney.
"You've just got to ride the highs and the lows," she said.
"She's only three, but she's already competing against the regular horses.
"In today's race for example, Best Beau ($3.30f) has had over 100 career starts, but Oh One Job's only had seven, so that becomes the issue.
"It's just a matter of finding the race where she will draw well against this company," said Coffee.
The fact she is also a filly was able to reduce her Rating Points by 10, giving her the cushy draw of gate 2, something Coffee said was crucial in the victory.
"She just loves to be in front, doesn't like the horses around her, so as soon as Mat went to the front it was almost never in doubt," she said.
"She wasn't breathing that hard either when she came back, which showed she had a bit left in the tank.
"That being said, Mat (Rue) did keep working on her in the straight to make sure she didn't switch off when Best Beau was coming at her," said Coffee.
It was brilliant to watch the filly in full flight, with Rue pressing the go button during a sizzling 27.9 third quarter, which set up the one length victory in the swift mile rate of 1:58.7.
So what's next for this boom filly?
After a fourth place finish in the NSW Breeders Challenge Heat for three-year-old fillies on September 10, Coffee is crossing her fingers that her runner can show a bit of improvement in the semi finals, and give herself a chance at the big prizemoney.
"She should qualify, she's through to the next round but she will be entitled to go into the regional ones as well, which are less prizemoney but easier races.
"Unfortunately for us though, that'll be at Bathurst, and she hasn't been at her best there!"
