The Western Premier League, formed this year after the carnage of COVID-19, has been a raging success for the region, and the Cobras have been a very competitive side despite it being the first time many have played together.
Senior player Adam Parker, one of the leaders of the defence and a key element in the forming of the club, was buoyant when describing how the boys felt after securing their first win.
"We knew a win was only just around the corner but Saturday was the first time the boys have showed they were hungry for a win for the full 90 minutes," said Parker.
The Cobras have been unlucky in a number of their games over the past month, with crucial lapses costing them dearly- and they knew they could not afford this against the Dubbo-based Spurs side.
"We knew it was going to be a tough game as they had been on a good streak; with two wins and a draw from their previous three games," said Parker.
The Cobras were missing Head Coach, and rugby union star, Meghan Kempson, but they started well having the majority of possession in the first 20 minutes, only to concede a goal shortly after.
It took an amazing half volley from electric winger Brent 'BJ' Morgan at the top of the box to get the scores level at half time.
The second half was all Cobras, after a Hayden Clarke cross found Hayden Westcott's head for an absolute screamer of a goal, which lifted the entire side.
Following that, the Cobras controlled the rest of the game, leading to goals from Blake Medlyn and Jimmy Kuntze.
This week the Cobras take on Lithgow at home on Saturday afternoon, with the Workmen sitting third on the ladder.
"Due to how tight the competition has been, the boys are very confident that we can go back to back," said Parker.
The home crowd at Woodward Oval would certainly love that! Come down and support the Cobras as they look for their second win. Kick-off is at 3pm.
