Dear Editor
There is no way the Elvis committee can guarantee that no one will get Covid-19 from the Elvis Festival and shouldn't that be enough to pull the plug?!
The loss of Elvis to the economy will be less painful then another shutdown of local businesses!
We have limited medical facilities and staff.
How does the committee and council think opening up our town to the possibility of a large scale outbreak of Covid-19 is a good idea?
Cancelling the festival closer to the day will still cause a massive influx of tourism thanks to all the already booked accommodation.
Cancel it now and encourage those that had booked not to come!
Clearly this virus isn't going anywhere!
We can survive a year without Elvis but how many of our local community would we lose to Covid?

Council's and town's support of the arts applauded
Dear Editor
In such a sports minded town it is very satisfying to now see new interest being taken in promoting the Parkes Shire cultural scene.
Parkes Shire Council has been fully supportive in establishing the Parkes Shire Arts Advisory Committee, meeting every second month at which all local groups can be represented.
The Advisory Committee in conjunction with council, has applied for grant funds to develop a flexible display area within the soon-to-be completed Coventry Room and Library project.
The Parkes Library has an art wall where local artists are invited to display their work.
Later in December an Arts Revival Festival over one week is being planned when stage, music and all forms of art, would be on display, should the current health crisis allow it.
To further promote the shire cultural activities, the Advisory Committee has forwarded a recommendation to council and the Australia Day Committee for their consideration, to expand the Cultural Awards to six categories, Performance, Literary, Visual, Junior, Lifetime Achievement and the Senior and Junior Shire Cultural Awards.
The nominations would be announced at the Arts Revival Festival later this year with winning recipients being awarded on Australia Day.
Should these awards eventuate, it is hoped the shire community would support this new format if approved, by nominating deserving artists for each category.
During this Covid-19 lockdown, let your artistic nature run wild!

Tip vouchers
In response to Tuesday's front page article on a new voucher system available all year round to replace two free weekends at the Parkes Tip.
Dear Editor
This is a great idea, saves people waiting and also for those people who have to work on those free days.

Coronavirus pandemic
In response to the positive coronavirus case confirmed in Orange last Friday.
Dear Editor
Why are there Sydney people travelling anywhere? Stay at home, stay away and stop the spread.
It is not rocket science. Stop being selfish - stay away.

True kindness
Dear Editor
Yesterday my husband, Archie, was waiting for me in the Woolworth's car park in Parkes.
An older gentleman came out of the arcade with two bags of groceries and seemed to have some difficulty in walking to his car.
Archie was about to get out and help him when a man jumped out of his own car and helped the man to his car and carried the bags for him.
When Archie told me about this I thought that I would write to you and express the kindness and compassion shown by this person. Thank you.
