Not a good day for Bowls on Sunday, August 18 but a couple of Championship matches were played in very strong winds.
Major Triples
The team of John Davies, Peter McPhee and Graham Barby handled the conditions a little better than Tom Furey, Dave Johnson and Brian Townsend, Team Davies got off to a good start and were never headed, running out winners 28-11.
Minor Pairs
It was a similar result in the match between Wilbur Harris and Steve Turner against Greg Howlett and Martin Tighe.
Wilbur and Steve scored six shots on the first two ends and held on to the lead, winning the match 32-16
On Thursday, August 15 a Minor Singles match also ended with a very similar result.
Greg Townsend took the early lead against John Watson and won the match 31-15.
Thursday August 15
A return to something like spring weather and a good field of twenty-eight Bowlers played seven games of Pairs.
In what was a very close game Mark Dwyer and Bruce Deland had the better of the early ends against Col Mudie and Bruce Deland but there was never much in it.
After twelve ends scores were level ten all.
With three ends to play Col and Martin had opened up the biggest lead of the match, 18-12 and looked likely winners but Mark and Bruce won the last three ends to draw the match 18 all and claim "bragging rights" having won the ends 12-9.
In another close one, Rob Tinker and Bob Freeman came up against Graham Dixon and Mal Porter.
The biggest margin in the scores was two shots until Rob and Bob won three ends in a row to lead 19-15 with three ends to play.
Graham and Mal fought back winning the last three ends but failed by one shot to level the scores and Rob and Bob held on to win 19-18.
In other matches:
- Ron Hornery and Chris Dunn 23- Les Kent and Jim Blake 19
- Graham Barby and Ian Simpson 26 - Bernie Mitchell and Ray Jones 19
- John Carr and John Watson 23 - Wally Grant and Greg Huggins 15
- Col Hayward and John Wright 26 - John Davies and Gordon Dickson 17
- Rob Irving and Col Miller were too good for Gary McPhee and Paul Hevers.
Rink 15 was the lucky one today and Rob Tinker drew up the magic No. 7 to share the $160 prize with Bob Freeman, Graham Dixon and Mal Porter.
Saturday, August 17
A full green again today with seven games of Pairs being played.
Rob Tinker and Maureen Miller had the lead for most of the game against Greg Howlett and Elaine Miller.
By the fifteenth end they had opened up the biggest lead of the match, 19-12 and with one end to play still had a three shot advantage.
Greg and Elaine managed to win the last end but could only score two shots and Rob and Maureen won the match 21-20.
In the match between Tom Furey and Colin Miller against Col Hayward and Lorraine Baker scores were fairly even until Col and Lorraine scored four shots on the twelfth end to lead 13-7.
Tom and Colin gradually got back into the match and with three ends to play had taken the lead 19 - 15.
Col and Lorraine won the next two ends but could not sustain their run and Tom and Colin won the last end to win 22-18.
In other matches:
- Graham Dixon and Mal Porter just got home against John Carr and Chris Dunn 22-20
- Geoff Freeman and Gordon Dickson 19 - John Davies and Greg Huggins 15
- Col Mudie and John Dunn 24 - Gary McPhee and Jim Blake 15
- Liz Byrne and Alan Affleck 26 - Arthur Corbett and Eileen Bradley 15
- Steve Turner and Rob Irving, quite a few - Dave Johnson and Ray Jones, not quite enough
Lucky Rink today was No. 19 but Graham Dixon missed out on the magic No. 7.

Recently purchased by Parkes trainer Sharon Jeffries, the four year old mare On The Delta was well ridden by the trainers daughter Tiffany Jeffries in the 1200 metres Tony Miller Maiden Handicap.
Leading for home, On The Delta ( $7 ) kicked away to score by over two lengths from Gerrylarose ( Ashleigh Stanley, $3.60 ) and Miss Bowjangles ( Andrew Banks, $12 to $6 ).
Trained by George Wright Jnr for Ian Logan from Parkes, Jim Clyburn ( Condobolin ), and partners, Leiladane ( $14 ) had former Queensland jockey Quayd Krogh in the saddle in the 1000 metres RNR Jumping Castle Hire Class 1 Handicap.
From back in the field, Leiladane ( $14 ) rushed down the outside to beat Rufio ( Jake Pracey-Holmes ,$3.50 ) and the heavily supported I Stole Your Love ( Andrew Banks, $5 to $2.50 favourite ).
Another to finish strongly from off the pace was the Frank Hayes, Dubbo trained Court In Camera ( Mathew Cahill,$13 ), winner of the Bob Skinner Painting And Decorating Benchmark 50 Handicap ( 1300 metres ) from Destiny Ambush ( Chelsea Ings,$17 ) and Victorian visitor Nordic Noir ( Tiffany Jeffries, $8 ).

Well on the road to recovery after sustaining very serious injuries in a race fall at Tomingley in April, Michael enjoyed being able to attend the meeting with his family and friends on Saturday.
Racing on Saturday at Gilgandra ( TAB ) and Cobar Picnics, followed by Bathurst ( TAB ) on Monday and Gulargambone on Saturday, August 31.
