Health teams in Parkes and Peak Hill have been named joint winners of a major award in the Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD) annual Living Quality and Safety Awards.

WNSWLHD Chief Executive, Scott McLachlan said, "the awards are our chance to recognise and celebrate innovation".
The Parkes and Peak Hill teams were joint winners in the 'Inspiring Team' Award.
The award is presented to a team who have worked to build a strong safety culture, develop reliable systems, and encourage improvement - 'living' quality and safety in their everyday work.
Parkes was a joint winner for a project which aims to change the way the team at Parkes hospital, operated focusing on a strong commitment to safety culture.
The priority was to ensure the team at Parkes provided safe patient care while building and developing a high performing team.
The nursing management team lead the way developing a facility huddle.
All areas are invited to attend including acute, community, patient support and maintenance.
The huddle is a stand up meeting in the staff corridor, using a clear and consistent format and involves all departments and focuses on issues that may impact on service delivery for them, on delivery of care to patients.
Patients at risk are highlighted, the reason why and who is looking after them.
Staff nominated as the rapid response team are allocated at the huddle.
Parkes Huddle has been happening for 2 years, it's now happens every day.
The Peak Hill team was named joint winner for its Peak Hill YEAH which aims to ensure that everyone in the Peak Hill MPS team knew what was expected of them when at work.
In a busy clinical environment, it can be difficult sometimes for staff to flag that they need assistance.
The Peak Hill YEAH Project created a specific language to ensure that staff could be confident and clear when asking for assistance, and also know that their request was heard and being acted on.
The service has also introduced an "all in", which can be initiative by any staff member which activity reaches a 'push point'.
The "all in" helps the team take stock, prioritise and delegate to ensure patient care and safety.
In 2019 we received more than 100 submissions from staff and teams across all the categories.
