In a latest update from the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) on the Inland Rail construction at Parkes, so far 63.39 kilometres of existing rail has been removed between Parkes and Narromine.
The Parkes to Narromine section is the first of 13 Inland Rail projects to begin construction.
As work continues along the section, INLink - which is the joint venture between BMD Group and Fulton Hogan - is busy removing and upgrading existing rail, building new railway embankments and culverts, and upgrading level crossings, signals, signage and fencing.
The rail and steel sleepers that are being removed as part of the upgrades are being recycled for use on the Pacific National Intermodal Terminal in Parkes and other parts of the rail network in NSW.
ARTC said it's just one of the ways they are keeping their commitment to sustainability.
In the next few weeks, INLink will start work on upgrading more level crossings between Goonumbla and Peak Hill and signalling hut installations, and continue culvert construction and installation along the alignment.
"We will install about 4000 culverts across the project," ARTC said in their update.
They also said people will notice the movement of fill material from the rail corridor to other areas.
More than 100,000 cubic metres of material have been moved so far as part of earthworks activities.
There will be detours in place while level crossings are upgraded and ARTC will notify nearby residents in advance. All detour information can be found on their website.
The next forums have been planned for June 19 and 20, where those interested can meet the project team and ask questions following a presentation.
ARTC said the forums are a good opportunity to find out more about the work, ask questions and provide any feedback.
There will be a forum in Parkes on Wednesday, June 19 at 5pm to 6.30pm at the ARTC Community and Working Hub at 290 Clarinda Street.
The second forum will be held at the Peak Hill RSL on Thursday, June 20 at 5pm to 6.30pm.
Neighbouring Inland Rail projects have started to get underway, with the Stockinbingal to Parkes section - south of Parkes - reaching the project feasibility phase.
ARTC said further environmental and technical investigations, hydrology studies and community engagement are being undertaken to develop an early design.
The Narromine to Narrabri project, north of the Parkes to Narromine section, is also in the project feasibility phase, with environmental and technical investigations underway.
