AirVenture Australia has announced that its premier three-day aviation expo will be relocated to Parkes Regional Airport, taking place in September from Friday 20 to Sunday 22.
The event aims to provide a one-stop-shop for anyone with an interest in aviation to gather and share their passion with a likeminded community and is expected to attract hundreds of aircraft and thousands of visitors over the three days.
The focus of the event will be that 'aviation is achievable' and will feature a trade exhibition, careers expo, seminars and workshops, networking opportunities, and will also feature a thrill-a-minute air show on the Sunday.
AirVenture Australia approached Parkes Shire Council in its quest to find a long-term home for the event in a regional centre that is able to support all the prerequisites to hold a successful large-scale aviation expo.
Parkes was attractive to AirVenture Australia for its stable weather patterns, first class airport, large accommodation offering, centrality to a large catchment of participants who drive and fly-in from all over Australia, and for Parkes' vibrancy and attraction to partners and families of participants.
AirVenture Australia organiser David Young said the team is very excited about the new home in Parkes.
"We have a new venue and new look event that is designed to attract a broad range of participants," he said.
"We are looking forward to working with Parkes Shire Council to develop and grow this event. It's onward and upward from here as we grow AirVenture Australia in Parkes."
In addition to static displays of aircraft, the event covers a range of aviation interest areas including everything associated with maintaining, designing, building, flying, training and teaching being on display for attendees to enjoy.
"AirVenture Australia is the best of both worlds. It's an event for aviators by aviators," David said.
Parkes Shire Council will work with organisers to design a suitable event layout and ensure that the event achieves all relevant approvals and regulation compliance, along with the many facets of event servicing that such a large event requires.
Parkes Shire Airport Committee Chairperson, Cr Alan Ward said he was pleased that AirVenture Australia approached Parkes to host this exciting event and hopes to see it grow and develop in Parkes.
"Parkes' central location and Council's vast experience in hosting major events will ensure the success of AirVenture over the coming years at Parkes Regional Airport," Alan said.
"Parkes airport already enjoys strong recognition in aviation circles and the public have also fully supported air displays at the airport previously. Hosting major events such as AirVenture Australia in Parkes helps in building a robust and diverse visitor economy for the Shire," said Cr Ward.
Parkes Shire Council will work with AirVenture Australia organisers in the coming months in planning for the Parkes event and to ensure it benefits the local community.
