Bass Clarinetist Gordon Richter of Parkes High has been chosen in the Schools Spectacular symphony orchestra.
“I am very excited,” Gordon said.
“I’ve been meaning to do this for years but it’s always clashed with something else, so now that I’ve finished school I can finally do it.”
Gordon has just completed his HSC and plans to study music next year.
“I’ve applied to the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and I’ll audition at the end of November,” he said.
“It’s a three year course with a fourth year if I get accepted to do a masters degree and then post grad stuff hopefully as well.
“Ultimately I want to perform in an orchestra and maybe do solo stuff if I get the chance. Teaching is something I’d like to do as well.
“I’d like to go work in Europe and America, I’ve got big dreams.”
Schools Spectacular Creative Director Sonja Sjolander said being selected into the symphony orchestra or the stage band was an unparalleled opportunity for student musicians.
“These remarkable young musicians agree that they grow so much from the Schools Spectacular experience,” Ms Sjolander said.
“They will be under the baton and guidance of highly experienced conductor, Steve Williams who is recognised internationally for what he achieves with student musicians.
“As well as combing with highly talented peers who love music, these musicians will be supported by professional tutors.
“The Schools Spectacular repertoire is broad and exciting so our young musicians will be challenged, inspired and enriched.”
Ms Sjolander said this year’s Schools Spectacular will be staged at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney’s Olympic Park over four shows on Friday and Saturday, 23 and 24 November.
The musicians in the symphony orchestra and stage band will join 40 Featured Performers, a 2,700-voice choir, 2,300 amazing dancers, the D’Arts Ensemble disability program, the Aboriginal Dance Company, puppets and an indispensable behind-the-scenes team.
