At Harrison Field: Bowling Club 7/148 in 29.5 overs (Alex Prout 65, Nathan Hessel 33, Tom Davis 22, Matt Swindle 13, Shaun Dunn 4/5 off 4.5 overs including a hattrick) lost to Parkes Hotel Pythons 5/154 off 28.2 overs (Adam Ashford 47no, Joe Van Opynen 40no, Grant Gaut 40, Frazer Todd 16, Michael McGrath 3/25 off six overs). Pythons (5pts) defeated Bowling Club (0pts) by five wickets.

In a well contested games highlighted by a hatrick by Pythons bowler Shaun Dunn the Pythons emerged as eventual winners after they eventually succeeded in their run chase against a gallant somewhat undermanned Bowling Club team. Batting first Bowling Club received a top start to their innings courtesy of Alex Prout (65 runs with nine fours) and Nathan Hessel (33 runs with two fours).

Alex Prout certainly demonstrated that his sporting skills are not just confined to being a rugby league player for the Parkes Spacemen. Shaun Dunn should be delighted with his hat-trick as it played a major factor in restricting the run rate for the Bowling Club team.

In reply the Pythons soon lost early wickets despite some good positive batting from Grant Gaut (40 with three fours). When the score stood at 5/69 the Bowling Club team appeared to be in a good position to win with Michael McGrath snaring 3/25 off six overs.

Pythons sixth wicket batting partners in Adam Ashford (47no with six fours and one six) and Joe Van Opynen (40no with four fours) then combined in a splendid unbroken partnership of 85 runs to guide the Pythons to victory.  The Bowling Club team despite been undermanned in the field never gave up in a match played in good spirits.

Star Hotel 8/147 in 23.1 overs (Tyson Spence 81, Andrew Bourke 28, Mitch Townsend 21, Jayden Capple 2/34 off four, Lucas Lees 2/4 off one) lost to Parkes Hotel Galahs 5/155 in 21.2 overs (Brett Hutchings 53no, Brad Parker 41no, Lucas Lees 20, Korine Coleman 15, Tobey Thorne 2/33 off six and Dane Thorne 1/18 off six). Galahs (five points) defeated Star Hotel (zero points) by five wickets.

In a game marked by plenty of big hitting, a series of dropped catches and an eventual power packed undefeated 75 run sixth wicket partnership between Brett Hutchings and Brad Parker the Parkes Hotel Galahs emerged victorious over an undermanned Star Hotel team.

Batting first Star Hotel led by a pyrotechnic big hitting innings of 81 runs off 53 balls with seven fours and five sixes by Tyson Spence. Tyson would be first to admit he enjoyed some good luck as catches were dropped.

Andrew Bourke (28) and Mitch Townsend (21) both scored quick runs for the Star Hotel while Lucas Lees a newcomer to the Galah’s ranks demonstrated he is a capable all rounder with the bat and ball.

The big hitting Brett Hutchings (53no in 29 balls with nine fours and one six) and Brad Parker (41no in 21 balls with three fours and four sixes) punished some loose bowling to bring the Galahs a comfortable victory.

Honey Badgers Cricket Society 174 in 27.4 overs (Dan Gordon 69, Matt Spedding 39, Harry Dawson 21, Dale Ingram 11, Craig Chapple 2/19 off 4, Ryan Dunn 2/57 off six, Paul Carty 4/19 off five and Grant Dunn 2/3 off 0.4) lost to Reedy Creek 6/175 in 25 overs (Lindsay Hughes 52, B Jessep 31, Craig Chapple 61no and Dan Gordon 4/49 off six). Reedy Creek (five points) defeated Honey Badgers (zero points) by four wickets.

Batting first the Honey Badgers lost two early wickets to the bowling of Craig Chapple only to see a fine third wicket partnership between Matt Spedding (39 with six fours) and the ever consistent Dan Gordon (69 off 47 balls with seven fours and three sixes) boost their early order score.

Evergreen all rounder Paul Carty produced a fine spell of bowling for Reedy Creek to capture 4/18 off five overs to assist in limiting the Honey Badgers final score to 174 off 27.4 overs.

In reply, Reedy Creek’s opening batsmen Lindsay Hughes scored a quick fire 52 runs off 25 balls with seven fours and three sixes to give his team a great start. Dan Gordon again illustrated his skills by dismissing four Reedy Creek batsmen during his six over spell before Craig Chapple played a fine innings of 61no off 60 balls featuring seven fours and three sixes to guide the Creekers to victory.

With the turf wickets out of action due to the storm that hit with vengeance on Friday evening this game was transferred to the boutique Armstrong Park setting to see a well controlled match between the Pitbulls and the Raptors.

Railway Pitbulls 8/204 in 30 overs (Brad Fletcher 94, Nic Parker 43, Andrew Tanswell 13no, L Parker 13, Luke Nash 2/10 off four and Max Keith 3/5 off five) defeated Raptors 8/176 in 30 overs (Max Keith 54no, Jacob Hutchings 45, Kurt Matthews 28, Ian Matthews 21, Gary Dukes 2/17 off six, Ray O’Brien 2/20 off four). Railway Pitbulls (5pts) defeated Raptors (zero points) by 28 runs.

The Pitbulls score of 8/204 of their allocated 30 overs was based on a fine innings from Brad Fletcher who scored 94 runs with the consistent Nic Parker chiming in to score 43 runs.

Good bowling from Max Keith (3/5 off five tight overs) and Luke Nash (2/10 off four overs) helped reduce the Pitbulls overall score. In reply, Ray O’Brien gained a major breakthrough for the Pitbulls by claiming the inform Scott Knights as he and Gary Dukes produced a tight opening spell of bowling.

The Raptors later order batting saw Jacob Hutchings (45) and Max Keith (54no) both play fine innings to rally their team, only to see the Raptors fall short by 28 runs at the end of their allocated 30 overs. Draw – Round 5 – Local Cricket.
