For those budding chefs there will opportunities galore to show off your culinary skills with three main categories to enter which are Entree, Main and Dessert. The overall winner will be awarded the title of National Bush Cook Champion and receive a cash prize of $500, a Bush Tucker Day camp oven and certificate.
There will plenty of prizes on offer throughout the day with first place winners in each category receiving a camp oven and certificate, while second place winners will receive a certificate and prize.
The Junior Bush Chef Cooking Competition allows the younger crowd to get involved and is open to all budding bush chefs between the ages of eight and sixteen years. While junior chefs are be supervised by a responsible adult, they also have the chance to take home some amazing prizes with first place receiving a camp oven and certificate,a long with second place being awarded a merchandise pack and certificate.
It is not only prizes up for grabs but bragging rights as well. In the Master Bush Chef Competition, which has become one of the most popular events, invited guests are given a select ingredient, pantry items and a strict time limit, and must then come up with an outstanding dish of their choice to wow the judges and take home the title.
For those who prefer to sit back and watch someone else do all the cooking, there will be market stalls, free test tasting sessions and cooking demos. There will also be a wealth of other entertainment and activities to get involved in, including the bushies relay, billy boiling contest and a free kids corner complete with gold panning, jumping castles and face painting, along with Ranger Nick will hosting a free damper making class.
The family entertainment continues throughout the day with the dog high jump competition and sheep shearing demonstrations, before things really start to heat up when special guest Richard Clapton performs live. Clapton is one of Australia’s foremost singer/songwriters and paved the way for three generations of songwriters to write about the experience of being Australian. Clapton’s songs are still omnipresent on the radio to this day, with his records charting the political landscape of the nation.
