FIRE WARNING
Rural Fire Service Mid Lachlan Valley Superindent Ken Neville urged everyone to take all precautions as hot, dry weather continues this week.
“The grass is drying out really quickly now and relative humidity got down to four per cent over the weekend, that’s very conducive to fire,” Mr Neville said.
Avoid slashing, welding, grinding – or any activities that could spread sparks – and keep vehicles out of long grass.
There’s a chance of a few storms toward the end of the week, which could lead to an increased chance of fires from lightning strikes. Please report any fires to 000.
There are some horror fire conditions around the state: the Newell Highway has been closed south of Narrabri since Thursday due to an out-of-control fire that has burned nearly 55,000 hectares in the Pilliga.
