A section of Cooke Park, near the intersection of Clarinda and Short streets, has been fenced-off for the construction and erection of a statue of Elvis.
So far a large concrete base has been built to support the plinth and the statue.
Any other details of the plinth and statue has been kept under wraps, with the Elvis Revival Inc Committee wishing to keep the structure a surprise.
It’s expected the project will be completed in time for the 2018 festival, with the official unveiling taking place on day three of the event, Friday, January 12.
Terrance Plowright has been commissioned to construct the new statue - the same artist who sculpted the Henry Parkes monument located in the town square.
