That is the message from CSIRO and The Bureau of Meteorology after they released their Australian Climate Change Projections last month.
The projections reinforce the stresses that Australia will face with the increasing impacts of unabated global warming. They provide the best information on likely future climate conditions.
If we continue to pollute our atmosphere the local impacts of climate change are likely to be severe.
In the Central West the number of days over 35C is projected to be 65 by 2090. That is triple the current number of days over 35C.
Parkes’ local climate could become more like Walgett.
The reports provide information on temperature and rainfall changes and changes in extreme events, like extreme fire days, flood and drought.
We have now had three years in a decade (2005, 2010 and 2014) when we have broken the record for global average temps. 2014 was the hottest year globally.
The projections show what climate change means where we live and work.
They show the confronting reality of what the community will face in coming decades.
These projections are based on the most rigorous data available and compiled by Australia’s pre-eminent science organisations.
