After nine and 10 wicket wins against Forbes and Grenfell respectfully, hosting an in-form Bathurst side to progress into the fourth round of the SCG Cup will likely be a much tougher hurdle to overcome.
Parkes’ bowling attack has been in devastating form with captain Anthony Heraghty hopeful they will continue their onslaught at Woodward Oval on Sunday.
Brent Tucker ripped through the Grenfell batsmen last Sunday while Hayden Sealy, Phil Dunford and Blake Smith have all been impressive this season.
“Each of our bowlers has been taking wickets and as a unit we are bowling well,” Heraghty said.
“It will be very important that we bowl in partnerships on Sunday and build pressure on their batsmen.
“Our fielders will be doing their utmost to back up the bowlers by taking any chances available and building pressure.
“That is something that has let us down a little bit this season.
“We have worked hard on this facet of our game and hopefully that will pay off on Sunday,” he said.
While the bowlers have been running rampant, there has not been a lot of work for the batsmen to do.
A number of the top and middle order have hit some good form despite the limited opportunities.
“We haven’t had a lot of runs to chase in the past two matches,” Heraghty said.
“Some of the guys have still had a hit and look in good form.
“Others have scored some runs in the local competition which is good.
“We will be looking to build a solid platform at the start of the innings.
“We have some very destructive batsmen in our middle to lower order with the likes of Pat Rosser and Hayden Sealy excellent examples of that.
“Hopefully they will have a solid base to launch from and we can either post a very competitive total or run down the Bathurst total as need be.
“I have every confidence we will put in a very strong performance,” he said.
The two teams will play for a spot in the fourth round of the SCG Cup on December 14 before the competition concludes with the final on January 11 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
