Under 12's Lachlan representative cricket
Last Sunday, the Parkes under 12 representative side played host to the newly created Wellington/Gilgandra team at an immaculately presented Keast Park no 2.
A sizeable crowd of interested supporters from both sides will long remember a masterful display of batting from young Parkes player Harry Yelland, who stroked his way to an unblemished 97* in an innings that featured 15 boundaries scored all around the ground.
Batting first, Parkes got off to a good start as Harry Yelland began to make his well-timed strokes right from the beginning of his innings.
Despite the early loss of two wickets, Harry was joined by Eamon Moody (13), who demonstrated a resolute defence and a couple of good attacking shots.
He struck a couple of good boundaries before being dismissed, leaving his side in good stead at 3/61 in the 14th over.
From here on, the Parkes innings was completely dominated by Harry as he reeled off a succession of authentic cricket shots.
Wellington/Gilgandra's bowling was of a good standard as they bowled only a few sundries. Archer Mason (2/7) was particularly impressive with a promising spell of probing spin bowling.
Parkes eventually finished up with 143 off their allocated 32 overs; a fantastic total. Harry hit a powerful boundary off the last ball of the innings but just fell short of reaching what would have been a wonderful century. He received a top reception for his efforts from his delighted teammates and spectators.
In reply Wellington/Gilgandra lost wickets at regular intervals to eventually be all out for 115 after 28 overs.
Archer Mason completed a fine all-round game by scoring an impressive 19 runs while Lucas White top scored with 25 runs.
The best bowling figures for Parkes came from Anderson Ball who clean bowled three batsman with some quick yorkers to take 3/18 off his five overs.
Harry Yelland backed up his batting to take 2/11 off his five overs with some well flighted leg spin while Eamon Moody took 2/12. Jayden Kuun with two catches was very good in the field.
Parkes coach Peter Yelland gave full credit to his young side for their victory but pointed out that they have bowled too many sundries. Peter will be looking for considerable improvement in this aspect of his team's performance in future games.
Parkes 7/143 (Harry Yelland 97*, Eamon Moody 13; Archer Mason 2/7) defeated Wellington/Gilgandra 9/115 (Lucas White 25, Archer Mason 19; Anderson Ball 3/18, Harry Yelland 2/11, Eamon Moody 2/12) by 28 runs at Keast 2, Parkes.
