Second Grade
Parkes Boars 26 – 17 Mudgee Wombats
With finals in their sights and building on some good form and results against top teams the Boars second grade looked strong,
bolstered by injury returnees and first graders losing spots to high flying second graders the Boars came out flying.
Early scores from Joe Nash and Mitch Hutching set the tone for the game and provided instant buffer against a determined wombat side with finals territory in their aims.
It was tic for tac through-out the game but with the steady hand of Samuel Davis leading an exciting back line,
featuring iconic mystery man Josephe Nash, the course was set for the mighty second grade galleon.
Parkes Boars took home the bacon and beat third place Mudgee for all five points and one point from a finals qualifying spot with two games to go and all to play for in a league where anyone can beat anyone.
First Grade
Parkes Boars 26 – 19 Mudgee Wombats
The Boars first graders were keen to avenge what occurred the last time these two teams faced and looking to seal guaranteed second place on the ladder, and under the watchful eyes of hundreds of spectators they did just that.
It wasn’t easy and it was physical from the off with the Seagull flying high, scooping a pretty standardly average Llyod Rodgers kick off, managed to clatter half of the town of Mudgee and win the ball.
Keiren Maddocks, Westcott, and Ben Ryan formed a formidable, physical, and powerful back row combination….albeit slightly un-dynamic,
this proved essential to stemming a physical Mudgee Side who featured some monsters and men caved from the great Redferns of USA themselves.
Maddocks doesn’t like nature, or trees, and now moving on from Brock Lesnar and channeling his inner John Cena featuring some nifty pairs of Jean Shorts, felled them again and again, in a performance some bloke on the street described as “slightly above par”
This was the tone for all the game and replicating the second grade performance in all things barring the score the Boars walked home victorious despite a particularly attractive touch judges best efforts!
With this result the Parkes Boars have guaranteed themselves a second place finish in the ladder this season with two games to go.
It’s all to play for lower down the ladder and with all teams wanting to secure the playoff games this is a great opportunity for rotation, squad selection, and building onwards to the aim of lifting the prestigious New Holland Cup!
The Boars look to continue their campaign away at CSU Bathurst Saturday, July 21 with kick offs 1:30pm (2nd XV) & 3:15pm (1st XV).
