A police spokesperson said the truck turned the corner from Sherriff Street to head out the Newell Highway about 8am – its load knocking the traffic light set over.
He said the falling pole just missed another vehicle stopped at the lights heading in to Forbes.
Traffic control was brought in, with stop / go workers manually managing traffic from Sherriff Street, McDonalds, Forbes CBD and the highway entrance to town.
Police escorted the vehicle, which was travelling with escort vehicles, out to the RMS heavy vehicle checking station.
They were expecting repairs – and a return to normal traffic light operation at the intersection – on Friday afternoon.
