This time last year we were feeling very sorry for visitors who were camping in tents because it was so hot.
Yesterday our thoughts turned towards campers again, but for a different reason.
We wondered after three inches of rain, how wet were they?
Fortunately, as of yesterday morning, only one visitor had booked in to Tent City, with the remainder of occupants due to arrive in the afternoon and today.
Tent City Hire travels from Brisbane every year to supply tent accommodation for the Parkes Elvis Festival.
The tents are fitted with carpet, two fold up beds with mattresses, and a 12 volt light.
“Graceland on the Green” as it is called, is located at Northparkes Sporting Complex.
They supply free tea and coffee in the club room and have a microwave, barbecue and phone chargers for campers use.
Employees Mick Kane and Nick Aitken, both university students from Brisbane, work for Tent City Hire in their holidays.
Last year they set up 100 tents.
“We don’t have as many bookings this year, maybe the heat last year put a few people off,” Mick said.
“We have 55 set up with two or three spares.”
