POLICE officers in Parkes have been hailed as heroes, after rescuing three dogs from a house fire in Glenwarrie Place, Parkes.

At 8am last Friday, March 12, NSW Police and officers from Fire and Rescue Station 417 Parkes were called to the house, which was alight.
Police were the first to arrive and not knowing if there was anyone inside, forced their way into the house to search for any occupants.
The officers were forced out due to thick smoke and heat but had discovered three dogs trapped inside the house.
With the assistance of a neighbour, police returned to the house and partially gained entry again through a side window, rescuing two of the dogs.
The third larger dog could not be reached, however when fire fighters arrived on scene a short time later, they were able to enter the house with breathing apparatus and rescue the third dog - with all three fortunately uninjured.

Significant damage was suffered to the house and the fire is not deemed to be suspicious.
With Fire and Rescue NSW crews attending multiple house fires this week, Superintendent Scott Dodson said it was a timely reminder for residents to develop their fire escape plan.
"Now is the time for residents to check they have a working smoke alarm and that all members of the family have an awareness of calling Triple Zero (000) in an emergency," he said.
