The site has certainly been a hive of activity as council workers, contractors and experts work to repair and resolve the ongoing salinity problem within the soil.

In an update provided to residents via its newsletter and social media pages, council said the project's schedule has been impacted by the higher-than-average rainfall events early this year.

It said the revised completion date is now estimated for the end of March.

With potentially more rain to come, council want to ensure this time frame will be met so it has reviewed the hours of work on the project.

Since February 15 there has be an increase in the hours to 7am-7pm weekdays and 7am-6pm Saturdays.

No work will be completed on Sundays or public holidays.

Investigation works on Cheney Park began in 2018/19 when council received a $550,000 grant under the NSW Government's Stronger Country Communities Fund to rehabilitate the site.

The rehabilitation works are to overcome the high salt levels which are causing the playing field to be scaled.

Council said salinity has been observed and managed at Cheney Park for more than 20 years.
