RAILWAY BOWLS
Due to recent weather conditions the greens have been rather empty this last week.
No Championship matches have been played, the freezing cold conditions on Thursday kept most members at home and the rain on Saturday caused the cancellation of the Social Bowls.
On Thursday August 20, it was good to welcome back Graham Turner to the club after a fairly long absence and Greg Austin who I haven't met before. They braved the conditions to join eight other "die-hards" for one game of Pairs and one of Triples.
In the Pairs match Graham partnered Matin Tighe against Graham Dixon and Bernie Mitchell. Scores were very close and after thirteen ends Martin and Graham were in front, 10 -9. After sixteen ends the lead had got out to 14-10. The last five ends were all won by a single shot and Martin and Graham won the match 17-11.
The Triples match was also very close with Col Mudie, Bob Freeman and Rob Irving taking on John Ward, Greg Austin and Arthur Corbett. After eighteen ends Team Ward had a one shot lead 15-14 but over the concluding ends Team Mudie found form to win the match 20-15.
