Swimming championships, like most other sporting competitions, have been cancelled or brought to a halt, with pools closing around the country because of the coronavirus pandemic.
But Price was lucky enough - and very grateful - to have been able to fit in one more championships before the Prime Minister's announcements to close ovals, pools, gyms and other sporting precincts last month.
The 14-year-old from Parkes High School returned to Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre in Homebush for his second NSW Country Championships from February 21-23.
He wasn't the only one representing the town either, with Georgia Rice also competing.
Price finished the weekend with a gold medal in the 200m individual medley (IM), silver in the 100m backstroke and 100m breaststroke, and a bronze in the 50m freestyle, all in the 11-14 years Multi Class category.
It's the first time age groups have been introduced to Multi Class swimming, separating it in two - opens and under 14s.
"Matty was seeded in his heats and got to swim against some swimmers who are in the Australian Paralympic team," mum Sharon Scott said.
"He wasn't nervous as he is getting used to swimming at Homebush and loved staying at the Novotel across the road," she laughed.
And if that wasn't enough, he also set three new personal best times from five races.
He took 1.29 seconds off his 100m backstroke, 1.43 seconds off his 100m breaststroke and 1.51 seconds off his 200m IM.
Rice also did a PB performance in the 50m freestyle.
"Matty was excited to be able to race with some of the best swimmers from NSW," Sharon said.
"He is thankful to his coach Jodie Turner and the Parkes Sharks Swimming Club in his training this season."
Unfortunately the Hancock Australian All Age Championships in Perth - that was set down for this month and which Price had qualified for after an exceptional performance at the NSW Multi Class Swimming Championships at the end of last year - have been cancelled on advice from Swimming Australia.
