The ongoing vital work and support Parkes Can Assist provides to cancer patients and their families is the reason why funds raised from a local shooting competition are donated to the charity every year.

The Toby Hawke Memorial Shoot - in honour of Parkes man Toby Hawke, husband of Adele - is held annually in August.
Last year's event saw more than 30 people take part and $1000 raised.
Adele said Toby was well supported by CanAssist during his battle with cancer and passed away in 2005. The first shoot in his memory was held in 2006.
"CanAssist provided financial support for Toby's accommodation, travel and pharmacy expenses during his illness, which maximised his quality of life during this time," Adele said.
"For many in this situation, the partner is unable to work while supporting the cancer sufferer. It can be a time of high costs and low income that Can Assist can help with, for which the Hawke family are very grateful."
Adele said the event is her way of returning the blessing, by supporting Can Assist to continue to help others in their cancer journey.
Long-serving Can Assist volunteer Pat Bailey said every person undertaking treatment for cancer is special to Can Assist.
"All funds raised support local people in the area with the many expenses associated with cancer treatment, including chemotherapy, travel, accommodation and pharmacy bills," she said.
On average there are about 100 local people supported by Can Assist at any one time.
"Everyone is treated equally by the confidential service, with only three Can Assist members holding the information about who receives support and funds," Pat said.
Adele and the Hawke family wish to thank everyone involved for all of their work each year in running the Toby Hawke Memorial Shoot, and raising funds for Can Assist.
