Black were first to score with Abigail Simpson combining well with Wendy Huppatz to convert.
Rovers Gold struck back in the second half with Cass Hodges finding the back of the net.
Gold looked like they would take the match in the dying seconds but exceptional defence from Lee Hodge, Gracey Denham-Jones and Georgia Kearney denied them of the opportunity.
Best for Gold were Casey Miles, Sarah Hartin and Cass Hodges with Jaz Greenwood, Georgia Huppatz and Georgia Kearney playing strongly for Black.
Magpies defeated the newly formed PHI team 3-1 in an entertaining match.
Wendy Rix, Olivia Thompson and Lori Ross scored for Magpies with Chloe McCarthy scoring for PHI.
Best for Magpies were Wendy Rix,Tina Jones and Meg Turner with Helen McGee and Kylie Blackstock playing well for PHI.
A grade men
Magpies Black were too strong for Rovers winning their match 4-1.
Goals for Magpies were shared between Andrew Finn, Jason Wright, Koby Johnstone and Conor Dwarte with Ian Westcott converting for Rovers.
Will Searl, Josh Kearney and Regan Hotham all played strongly for Magpies.
Joe Kinsela was best on ground for Rovers in an outstanding performance in goals with Simon Scott also playing well.
Magpies White just edged out Cellars 4-3 in a great match of hockey.
Dave MacGregor scored a double for Magpies with Grady Magill and Phil Dunford also scoring.
Goals for Cellars were shared between Craig Kelly, Daryl Frost and Neville Kirwan.
Best for Magpies were Glenn Johnstone, James Finn, Royce Simpson and Grady Magill with Kane McFarlane and Hugo Fenton playing well for Cellars.
B grade women
Budgies had a great start to their season defeating a depleted Rovers Gold side 7-0.
Madeline Swan scored twice with Lauren Hutchison, Emily Townsend, Emily Blackstock, Rachael Kelly and Brooke Kelly all scoring nice goals on the back of excellent team work.
Best for Budgies were Jo Payseno, Brooke Kelly, Lauren Hutchison and Emily Townsend.
Izzy Miller played well in her first game of senior hockey for Rovers with Naomi Bolt having her usual strong game.
Middleton Eagles defeated Magpies White 1-0 in a close match.
Amber Brown made the most of her opportunity in the circle to give her side the victory.
Best for Eagles were Niamh Mitton, Amber Brown, Meg McKenzie and A Jones with Skye Harris and Chantel Constable playing well for Magpies.
Rovers Black just edged out Marist 3-2 in a great game of hockey.
Carla Peden was impressive in the circle knocking in two goals with Chloe McCarthy also finding the back of the net for Rovers.
Kelley Westcott and Teigan Miles both scored for Marist.
Best for Rovers were Sarah Jane, Kelly Spedding and Carla Peden with Teigan Miles, Sharon Dean-Moody and Natalie Hunter strong for Marist.
Cellars defeated Magpies Academy 1-0 in a tight match.
Toni Speakman had her usual strong game and converted a nice goal to give Cellars the win.
Best for Cellars were Anita Beard, Toni Speakman and Molly Orr.
Best for Academy were Wendy Rix, Molly Brown and Isla Skinner.
Magpies Black defeated Middleton Coachman 2-1 in an entertaining game.
Megan Hornery gave Middleton a good start with a nice strike on goal.
Magpies fought back hard with goals coming through Bria Constable and Laura Jones to take the match.
Meg Turner, Lucy Turner and Bria Constable were all impressive for Magpies with Amber Brown and Cherie Simpson both playing strongly for Middleton.
B grade men
Cellars Black and Rovers Gorillas played out a close 1-1 draw.
Simon Scott converted for Rovers and Kane Nutley scored a great goal for Cellars.
Joe Kinsela was very impressive in goals and denied Cellars several late opportunities.
Best for Cellars were Toby Collins, Kane McFarlane and Jackson Plummer with Joe Kinsela and Chris Francis playing well for Gorillas.
Rovers Gold defeated Cellars Aqua 4-3 in a great match of hockey.
Jacob Chambers was best on ground and scored two nice goals for Rovers with Nic Job and Declan Daley also converting.
Luke Hodges was back in form in front of the net scoring a double for Cellars with Chris Hoy also converting.
Jacob Chambers received maximum best and fairest points with Cooper Huppatz also performing well in his first senior match of hockey for Rovers.
Hugo Fenton, Luke Hodges and Neville Kirwan all played well for Cellars.
Middleton had a good start to their season defeating Magpies Academy 1-0.
David Sherritt converted for Middleton to seal their victory.
Best for Middleton were John Welsh, Tobey Thorne and Nick Kelly with Charlie Summerhayes and Archie Rix playing well for Magpies.
Magpies White were too strong for Magpies Black winning 6-0.
Goals were shared between Brody Clarke (2), Tommy Searl (2), Angus Arndell and Oliver Brown in the victory.
Best for White were Brody Clarke, Royce Simpson, Peter Yelland and Angus Arndell with youngster Isaac White playing well for his first outing in the senior ranks for Black.
