Parkes Police have started doing community consultation in town.
And Chief Inspector Dave Cooper said the plan is to do it once a month.
“Ultimately it’s about being accessible,” Chief Inspector Cooper said.
“We’re also seeking community feedback and answering questions people may have.”
Police will also be discussing security with passersby.
Local police regularly conduct security assessments for homes and businesses in Parkes, providing recommendations on how families and people can improve their security.
“The idea is to make it a harder target for thieves,” Senior Constable Daniel Greef said.
“We’re out here answering a variety of questions on security.”
The community consultation van made its first appearance outside the Parkes Reject Shop at the end of November last year.
And it was very well received by members of the community.
“It’s so lovely to see [them] about the street and how nice it is we can come up and talk to [them],” Parkes resident Doreen Parker said.
“I’m very sincere about that...People are frightened of police these days...I think you do a great job,” she told Chief Inspector Cooper before heading off down the street.
So if you see the police van down Clarinda Street, why not stop for a chat with a local officer.
