Leon, who has been volunteering at Parkes Library for the past nine months, was unable to attend when the awards were handed out in a ceremony held in Bathurst on September 22.
After completing work experience at the library as part of a TAFE course Leon offered to volunteer on Friday and at special events.
During his time at the library Leon has helped the team achieve a number of projects, including the transfer of cassette archive records onto DVD involving extensive editing and the reorganisation of many collections to make them more accessible to customers.
Most generous with his time and skills Leon has become a valued member of the team and has now commenced a Bachelor degree in Library and Information Science via distance education.
Library staff say Leon completes all tasks in a thoroughly professional manner, looking for no recognition at all.
