In Round 1, Marja Iffland, Valmai Westcott, Gwenda Carty and Cherie Frame will take on Merilyn Rodgers, Lorraine Baker, Maureen Miller and Kim Evans. It should shape up to be a good game. The three teams who have a bye in Round 1 are:
- Margaret Hawken, Hilda McPherson, Joan Simpson, Maree Grant.
- Eileen Bradley, Kate Keogh, Minnie Riordan, Audrey Jones.
- Brenda Davies, Betsy Johnstone, Liz Byrne, Rhona Went.
Round 2 will see Maree Grant’s team take on the winner of the first round match between Cherie Frame and Kim Evans while Audrey Jones’ team will play Rhona Went’s team. Next Tuesday, September 5 is Veteran’s Day at Canowindra, but social bowls will be on and any teams available can play their fours match. Matches set down must be played before or on Tuesday, September 12, unless players are involved in Taber Shield.

Railway Bowls
Two important matches took place at the club at the weekend. The first match of fours and a match of triples in the Fours. A very close match saw Brett Weekes, Rod Ramsay, Doug Miller, Luke Ramsay, Geoff Leonard, Gary Phillips, Graeme Phillips and Mike Phillips play. The match went down to the wire with Luke's team winning 22-20 with the score see sawing throughout the match.
In the major triples match Ian Simpson, Matt McGrath and Jim Daley proved to strong for Frank Gersbach, Bernie Coleman and Terry Hetherington winning convincingly 35-10 what didn't help the boys went down a six and two fives .
Wednesday afternoon 16 bowlers enjoyed a sunny afternoon Show Day, winners, Col Hornery and Peter Clegg. Runners up, Steven Clegg and Frank Gersbach. Stefan’s Haircut was won by Col Hornery
Social Bowls on Saturday were the new format proved to be very successful with 24 bowlers taking part winners on the day were Matt McGrath and Allan Affleck second prize went to Dave Johnson and Nigel Cusack. Third prize, Mike Parkes and Tony Latter. Bowlers played two lots of 12 ends This Saturday will be the same event so put your name down by 12.30pm. Sunday bowls will be played if there is enough interest please inform me or the club. Don’t forget the AGM September 24 at 11am.
Netball
Results Round 12. Division 1: Sapphires defeated Diamonds 27-16 (Most Consistent: Amanda Lowe, Isabel Aveyard). Emeralds def 12 Reps (forfeit) (Most Consistent: Tianna Simpson, Kendra Dunn). Division 2: Glitters defeated 11 Development (forfeit). Super 8s: Magics defeated Twinkles 17-16 (Most Consistent: Emmeline Wylie, Sophie Laing). Rockettes defeated Hot Shots 5-2.
Semi Final Draw – Saturday, September 2. Division 1: Court 2: Sapphires versus Diamonds (Umpires: TBC). Court 4: Emeralds versus U12s Reps (Umpires: TBC). Division 2: Court 2: U11s Reps versus Glitters (Umpires: to be confirmed). Bye: Stars.
Bridge
Thursday, August 24 north south winners were Louise Payne and Peter Quin 63.76 per cent, Joan Reilly and Val Worthington 57.5, Greig Ball and Rosemary Morris 51.25. East west winners were Keith Fiedler and Helen McQuie 53.65, Isabel Orange and Suzie McNamara 52.6, Vicki Burke and Dawn Phipps 51.04.
Monday, August 28 Tim and Gai Baker topped with a good score of 69.44 per cent. Second were Keith Fiedler and Rosemary Morris 59.72 followed by Bev Laing and Greig Ball 55.56. In fourth place were Jennifer Calvert and Dawn Phipps 52.78.
Tuesday, August 29 Val Boyd and Jan Freeman 59.38 were first. There was a tie for second with 58.33 per cent between Keith Fiedler and Jan Latter and Bev Laing and Marlene Freeman. There was another tie for the next two pairs and all round the scores were fairly even for the whole field.
DRAGON’S LAIR.
Captain chop and the dragon fire. Sunday, August 27 the Parkes Services Social Golfers played a Canadian two Stroke Foursome for the Len Archer and William Warren Trophies. Winners on the day were Robert Rea and Ross Smith with 64 ½ net. Runner ups were Brian Hogan and Reg Davison on C/B from Rodney Luyt and Richard Wells on 67 ½ nett.
Nearest the Pin Awards were very scarce with Bill Warren claiming the fourth hole, Ross Smith taking out sixth and Brian Hogan claiming the 15th. Lucky Card Draw and doubling up with the Bunny Award were the team of Phil Smith and Tom Delmenico. Raffle Winner was Brian Hogan (again) with golf balls going to Richard Wells and Tom Delmenico. Next Event will be a Stableford. Trophies supplied by Paul Murray with the Raffle supplied by Robert Rea.
